About Me

Hi, I'm Matthew Levin, a dedicated Software Engineer. I am currently working on cutting-edge solutions at Nextech Systems. I graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a Bachelors In Science in Computer Science in January 2025.

I have a strong foundation in programming languages like C#, Java, Python, and JavaScript alongside proficiency in frameworks such as Angular, RxJS, Selenium, .NET, and Stripe I am able to excel in creating robust, user-centric web applications and automated testing solutions. My professional experience includes maintaining enterprise-level practice management systems, optimizing SQL Server database performance, and implementing dynamic user interfaces with modern web technologies.

Outside of work and school, I'm proud to be an Eagle Scout, a rank that represents years of commitment, leadership, and community service. For my Eagle Scout project, I designed and built a sensory path for a local elementary school to help kids develop motor skills and create a fun, interactive space for learning. Scouting has taught me persistence, adaptability, problem-solving, and compassion which I carry into everything I do

Feb 2025 - Present
Software Engineer I, Payments - Nextech Systems

• Maintained and enhanced Nextech Payments Platform and supported integration for CareCredit and various payment methods via Stripe.
• Supported Practice Management web application across full stack: Angular + NgRx UI, C#/.NET APIs, and SQL Server.
• Maintained legacy Practice Management desktop application (C++ ), including bug fixes and stability improvements.
• Created internal AI agent applications using Electron and Angular, worked on MCP servers, and championed adoption of new AI practices and authored documentation for said practices.
• Helped optimize and test and benchmark SQL Server DB queries.

C++

C++, C with classes and the kitchen sink. I worked with C++ when working on Nextech's legacy PM/EHR solution (Nextech Select) My programming 1, programming 2, and computer graphics classes at loyola were in C++.

C# is a general purpose object oriented language. You can write just about anything in C# it comes with all sorts cool features like language integrated queries, shorthand for null checking, optional parameters, static typing, and everything in between. undoubtably the backbone of the .NET ecosystem. This is probably my favorite programming language, it's what C++ shouldve been in my oppinion.

JavaScript

The backbone of modern frontend web development. I used this a lot when working at Nextech Systems and when working on my class's group project for My software engineering class at Loyola University New Orleans.

TypeScript

Typescript adds a static typing system and a bunch of other features to javascript, popular in a lot of modern frontend web frameworks. Transpiles to javascript

SQL

Structured Query Language isn't technically standardized and is heavily dependent on the DBMS you are running it on. I like SQL it's cool.

Angular

RxJS

A Reactive Extensions Library for JavaScript. I used this to make Angular web pages that were more responsive when working for Nextech as a Software Engineering Intern. RxJS integrates very well with Angular observables and makes it very easy to have elements asynchronously update.

NUnit

NUnit is a C# unit testing framework. I learned how to use it when working as a QA Automation Intern at Nextech Systems. We used it for automated UI tests and unit tests and traditional unit tests at nextech.

Jasmine

I learned how to use Jasmine at Nextech while working as a Software engineering intern. Jasmine is an extremely simple Javascript testing framework. I think it is an excellent option for testing client side logic, and UI related code.

SQLServer

I learned SQLServer while working for Nextech Systems as a Software Engineering Intern. It has some unusal features but it is still extremely powerful and it integrates very well with the Microsoft .NET ecosystem.

Programming

I have been passionate about programming for almost as long as I can remember. My father taught me Atari BASIC in fourth grade and I've loved programming ever since. Check out the projects section on the home page if you want to see more stuff that I've worked on.

I've been using windows for as long as I can remember. I use it professionally at Nextech Systems.

Algorithms

We all have to take a class called "data structures" for computer science at Loyola, but it is really a data structures and algorithms class. It covered time complexity, sorting and searching algorithms, and some abstract data structures like linked lists, binary trees, stacks, queues etc.

Stripe

At Nextech I used stripe to help facilitate online and in person payments

AI Agents

Creating AI agents is kinda fun, I love integrating new tools to make life easier.

MCP

I have worked on some MCP servers to give Agents context and the ability to interact with code accross multiple git repos. Fascinating technology.

Electron

I worked on creating some desktop based AI agents that were made using Electron and Angular.

I got a lot of customer facing retail experience when working at GameStop, BestBuy, and working the Christmas tree lot for my scout troop. Mostly selling but I also helped here and there with returns in the customer service department at Best Buy

Java

Java is another great object oriented language. I'm a big fan. I'm glad this language popularized garbage collection in modern programming. I learned this language at SPC originally and revisited it at loyola and used it for my software engineering class where we built a full web application using apache tomcat and postgreSQL

JUnit

I first used JUnit in my Java 2 class at St. Petersburg College and I later returned to it when working on the group project for my Software Engineering class at Loyola.

PostgreSQL

I learned PostgreSQL when working on my class' group project for Software Engineering at Loyola. I architected most of the database for that project. It was extremely simple but I was very proud of it.

Apache Tomcat

I helped build a web app as part of my software engineering class with apache tomcat. Working with it taught me a lot about web development and what goes on under the hood of most websites.

Docker

I helped build a web application for my software engineering class at loyola with docker. And this website can be run in a docker container.

Windows

I've been using windows for as long as I can remember. I use it professionally at Nextech Systems.

MacOS

I started using MacOS when I worked at Best Buy and since I branched out it has been my go-to when need to get things done.

Linux

I first learned how to use GNU/Linux in my Operating Systems class and now I use it as my primary OS. My personal machine is triple booted with Manjaro Linux, Kali Linux, and Windows 11 (mostly for gaming). I actually developed A good chunk of this website using that manjaro installation.

Java

Python

Python was the first real programming language I learned. Writing python feels like magic sometimes, stuff just works and you probably don't have to write that much code either. Python behaves like a scripting language on the surface but it's actually multi-paradigm it supports object oriented patterns as well. fun fact: this website was built with django, which is a python web framework.

JUnit

I first used JUnit in my Java 2 class at St. Petersburg College and I later returned to it when working on the group project for my Software Engineering class at Loyola.

OracleDB

I learned OracleDB at St. Petersburg College. I struggled with learning SQL and normal forms at first but learning some of the more advanced and niche features that PL/SQL supports was harder. I'm glad I learned it though. PL/SQL is really powerful and I wish I could use it more.

Other Achievements

Eagle Scout - Boy Scouts of America

I was a boy scout for 7 years and I earned my Eagle rank in 2022. For my project I made a sensory path that was painted onto a ~360ft long rectangular sidewalk. This is to help children with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) to develop gross motor functions (throwing, jumping, crawling, etc.) as many of them are unable to play on the playground. It was space themed so I added some facts and design choices so it could be used as a manipulative when teaching about the solar system. I also building 6 busy boards with various attachments on them to help special needs children to help them calm down when they get overwhelmed.

Scouting

I have been actively involved in scouting since the first grade. For my Eagle Scout project, I designed and constructed a sensory path at Bardmoor Elementary School (coordinates: 27.85305981279022, -82.7538949386571). I also completed two treks at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Backpacking

I'm an avid backpacker, I love it I've been on two two-week treks to Philmont Scout Ranch. There really is nothing like being out in the wilderness with just some maps and your wits.

Leadership

I learned a lot of leadership skills in scouts, I tend to be a more democratic leader.
